This is the site of Dr Mariann Hardey, where you’ll find I like the composition of the written word (ah, my English Literature days do betray me) and I am in the nicest manner gripped with the social theory of mediated interactions and digital communication.
This rather un/fortunate malady has manifested itself in various ways. I founded and continue to write the well received and critically acclaimed (even by the Edinburgh Book Festival it seems) Proper Facebook Etiquette blog. Words have been here since 2004.
There’s nothing like jumping on the pony early. Another project is my research monograph about ] (forthcoming as you read this, I am writing), articles, articles, articles, and, most recently, as a columnist for Tech City News.
I also have an ever-increasing set of photographs of air conditioning units on Instagram (you will Like); a burgeoning eBook publishing empire (that may be a slight exaggeration – more of a small flame soon to be flickering along the digital wires) and a shameless addiction to Twitter as @thatdrmaz, a site I have occupied since 2006.
You’ll note then that I am an early starter and keen enthusiast of most digital do-dah’s.
Occasionally, people even pay me to write things or to talk to them. Thank you BBC, Channel4, The Edinburgh Book Festival… I am currently working on textbook with a colleague at City University London, about digital communications and more. Primarily as the market is saturated with rather flimsy interpretations and we both teach in this area.
I am thirty-years-something-of-age and muddle along in Original York, when I am not attending to lectures and events at University College, Durham, membership of which as SCR I take seriously and socially.
I also like the aesthetic of squares and the work of Josef Albers. A lot.
